I’m very fortunate to be able to teach a great group of kids how to race here in the Phoenix area. Most of them came up through our Optimist program and are now with us learning the rules of the road, how to start races, and how to go upwind and downwind effectively.
We do give trophies for winning, but we also have a daily “Awesome” award so everyone gets recognized for good performance. We are working on a video system for off the water coaching as well.
Arizona Sailing Foundation has O’pen Bic sailboats as well as some Laser 4.7’s and Laser Radials for the kids to grow up into. This progression seems to be working for us. Would love to hear from anyone else who has a program that they have kids in and how you do things!
